Looking ahead in September

Thank you for a great start to this new school year!  Here are a few things to take note of for this month.

  • Walk-a-thon forms are due in to school tomorrow – September 2, 2010.
  • We have a new poll question for the month check it out in the side bar.
  • 5th grade baby pictures are due into the year book.  Please upload them though the yearbook page or send them to school in a marked envelope with your child’s name and their teacher’s name.  (Photos will be returned to you.)
  • The 5th grade committee is looking for volunteers to help with events.  Please contact our 5th grade committee chair and let her know how you can help!

Walk-a-thon

The Camden Station Walk-a-thon is our MAJOR fundraiser of the school year. It is not our only one. We have the walk-a-thon in place of selling gift wrapping, cookie dough, magazines, etc…

We need your help in making Camden’s Walk-a-thon successful. Last year we were able to raise $22,000. This is our goal again for this school. Our plans for the funds include helping the school to purchase new computers. We would like to be able to purchase 10 computers. Along with the computers we will use the funds for publications, software programs, supplies, reading assessments, school beautification, cultural arts, and other areas.

Here is how the Walk-a-thon will work. Collect sponsors and return this packet to the PTA by Thursday, September 2nd. Sponsors have 2 options. They can donate a flat fee of $20 or they can pay by the lap, which is $5 per lap. You may be thinking that this is a little high. Understand the kids are only walking for 20 to 25 minutes depending on the grade. We are using the track over at South Oldham High School. One lap is ¼ mile. Last year the students went anywhere between 6 – 13 laps, that is because some students decided to RUN versus WALK. We are going to do our best to encourage them to walk, especially with the way the temperatures have been lately.

The walk-a-thon will be on Wednesday, September 8th. We will start at 8:45am with Kindergarten and 1st Grade. At 9:45am, the 2nd and 3rd Grade will come participate. At 10:45am, the 4th and 5th Grade will come participate. We use less than one hour of the school day for the students, and the Walk-a-thon is in place of their Arts and Humanities period. They will be learning about teamwork and how physical activity can be fun.

Here is the PRIZE LIST for the Walk-a-thon:

  • Grand Prize (Most money raised)—A blue DSiXL and 6 month Family Membership to Louisville Martial Arts
  • 2nd Place (one per GRADE for 2nd highest money raised)—Digital camera with video recording for kids
  • ALL Students will receive a fun dogtag with the Walk-a-thon logo along with a fitness tag for their shoes and 1 month membership to Louisville Martial Arts
  • Students who raise $40 or more will receive a Walk-a-thon T-shirt
  • Students who raise $80 or more will have their name put into a drawing for the opportunity to be Co-host on Newscast with Mr. Martin and Ms. Ford. (one student per Grade will win)
  • Students with the highest amount of laps around will receive a 3 month membership to Louisville Martial Arts
  • Class who raises the most money will receive a Pizza Party (one per Grade)

If the school raises $18,000, the school will have a Pajama Party along with extra recess one day.

If the school raises $20,000, the school will have the PJ Party, extra recess, and a Kickball Tournament for the classes who raise the most money. This will be hosted by Mr. Martin and Ms. Ford

If the school raises $22,000, the school will do the things listed above, along with having a Dunk Tank during the extra recess day. The students will have the opportunity to dunk Mr. Martin and potentially other staff members. (No students will be dunked)

Please make sure your child brings water! We will also have water available. If you have time, come join the FUN. The children love having their families participate. We will have a DJ to keep us moving and grooving.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the PTA Executive Board (Christy Michaud, Kerry Evans, Rae Carol Ennis, Heather Deshler, or Michelle Clark). Our email address is camdenstationpta@gmail.com.
